Chicago (A)'s right-hander Lewis Wolfolk was untouchable all year long. His work paid off today as the American League named him the Most Valuable Pitcher winner! This season Wolfolk compiled an ERA of 2.93, going 24-13 in 44 starts. He fanned 135 while giving up 394 hits in 371.2 innings. He has 30 complete games and 3 shutouts. His season numbers are: .387 AVG, 231 hits, 56 doubles, 6 triples and 32 taters, along with 133 RBI and 146 runs scored. He's 2nd in the American League in batting, 1st in homeruns and 1st in RBI! Stearnes wins the award for the 3rd time in his 4-year career. The Most Valuable Hitter in the National League was handed to Chicago (N)'s centerfielder Charles Smith! Smith has walked 49 times this year and posts a .475 OBP. While batting .436, 259 for 594, he has driven in 176 runs. He's 1st in the National League in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 1st in RBI! Tony Lazzeri will never forget his first full season. The American League was convinced that Chicago (A)'s second baseman, 23 years old, should be the Rookie Of The Year winner of 1927. His season numbers are: .281 AVG, 149 hits, 38 doubles, 6 triples and 14 taters, along with 101 RBI and 96 runs scored. The 1927 National League Rookie Of The Year winner is from St. Louis (N) this season. Babe Herman put together impressive numbers for a rookie en route to win the first major award of his career. PHILADELPHIA (A) - Philadelphia (A)'s first baseman Jack Fournier already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His hit in the 1st inning was a single off Ray Keating. Along with his 2000 hits, Jack collected 157 homeruns and 1111 RBI in 15 seasons. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. But the most important thing is winning, and my whole career I gave everything I could to help my team.'

Saturday 9/23/1927: New York (A)'s Martin severely injured
NEW YORK (A) - When it rains, it pours. New York (A)'s ace Speed Martin will not pitch for at least 6-7 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Chicago (A) where he left the field in the 6th inning. After being taken to a local hospital, Martin was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Strained Elbow Ligament. Speed has a record of 12-22 this season, with an ERA of 3.75. In 348 Innings he was able to strike out 121 batters. He has 18 complete games and one shutout.

Thursday 8/31/1927: Huge blow for Pittsburgh's Combs, career over
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's leftfielder Earle Combs hurt himself in the 1st inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Earle Combs will miss at least entire career. Ruptured Disc Back was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. He has hit 3 homeruns while batting .293 this season. His 126 hits and 39 walks add up to a .350 on-base percentage.
 
Monday 8/28/1927: Pittsburgh's Martin Dihigo mashes five hits
CHICAGO (N) - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Pittsburgh's shortstop Martin Dihigo after the 9-1 win over Chicago (N). In the 1st inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Logan Hensley. His 2nd hit, a solo homerun off Logan Hensley in the 4th inning, landed an estimated 410 feet from home plate. Number 3 in the 5th inning accounted for a double. He had singles in the 7th (one RBI) and in the 9th . Martin scored 3 runs, and he collected 4 RBI as well! ST. LOUIS (A) - Irish Meusel is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 6 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. In the 8th inning he belted a two-run double off Herman Gordon. He collected singles in the 1st , in the 3rd inning , in the 4th inning (one RBI) , in the 5th inning (one RBI) and in the 7th (one RBI). Irish did drive in 5 while scoring one run on his own. He now has a total of 104 hits this season, accounting for a .297 batting average. New York (A) improved its record to 59-72, scoring 11 runs on 17 hits.

BOSTON (A) - Boston (A)'s players were scared when they had to watch Oscar Johnson suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against St. Louis (A). He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Johnson will probaby miss 7 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Finger. NEW YORK (N) - Pittsburgh's centerfielder Earle Combs accomplished a difficult feat in a game against New York (N), hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .307! A single in the 1st off George Smith accounted for his 1st hit. A RBI triple off George Smith in the 3rd inning, accounted for his 2nd hit. A single in the 5th off George Smith accounted for his 3rd hit. A single in the 6th off George Smith accounted for his 4th hit. His 5th hit, a three-run homerun off George Smith in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 425 feet from home plate. His 6th hit was a double off Red Shea in the 9th inning. PHILADELPHIA (N) - Babe Ruth got a standing ovation from 27887 fans in Philadelphia (N), who witnessed his 2000th career hit. With one out in the 3rd inning, Babe drilled a triple, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. His best year so far was 1923 where he hit .349 with 51 homeruns and 150 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.'

ST. LOUIS (N) - Clay Roe took the mound and never left. And St. Louis (N) hitters couldn't touch him at all. Philadelphia (N)'s left-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 5 career shutouts in 74 games started. Roe (12-9) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 4, throwing 124 pitches. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' PITTSBURGH - When it rains, it pours. Pittsburgh's ace Harry Harper will not pitch for at least 4-5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Chicago (N) where he left the field in the 7th inning. Torn Bicep Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Harry has a record of 10-8 this season, with an ERA of 3.73. In 176 Innings he was able to strike out 67 batters. Harry has pitched 2 shutouts and 14 complete games.

NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s centerfielder Chick Hafey will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between New York (A) and St. Louis (A). The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Hafey collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Medial Collateral Ligament. Hafey has hit for a .244 average this season. PITTSBURGH - Wilson Redus was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Philadelphia (N) to a 12-6 win over Pittsburgh by homering three times. In the 1st inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Jesse Winters. His 2nd blast, a two-run homerun off Jesse Winters in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 433 feet from home plate. ST. LOUIS (A) - St. Louis (A)'s Bibb Falk suffered a serious injury Saturday in a game against Boston (A). Falk fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 5-6 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Pulled Back Muscle which will require surgery. He has hit 6 homeruns while batting .295 this season. Friday 6/9/1927: Babe Ruth ropes 500th career homerun
CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s Babe Ruth showed a smile on his face after he belted his 500th career homerun against New York (N) on Friday. A 419 foot drive to right-center marked his 500th career bomb, a two-run homerun off George Smith in the 3rd inning. Perhaps his best year so far was 1923 where he hit .349 with 51 homeruns and 150 RBI. Babe hit 30+ homeruns in a season 12 times, hitting 40 bombs 5 times. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.' It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame!
 
Friday 6/9/1927: Cleveland's Lundy severely injured
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's third baseman Dick Lundy will miss about 5-6 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 6th inning of the game between Cleveland and St. Louis (A). He fielded a ball off the bat of Heinie Manush, threw a bullet to first and immediately signaled that he's not OK. Ruptured Tricep Tendon was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Dick is hitting .372 this year, with 87 hits in 234 at bats. He has driven in 28 runs, slugging .491. He's 5th in the American League in batting!
 
Tuesday 6/6/1927: Washington's Pie Traynor gets the cycle
ST. LOUIS (A) - Washington's shortstop Pie Traynor once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up St. Louis (A)'s pitching staff with a 4 hit performance on Tuesday. A single in the 1st off Bill Walker accounted for his 1st hit. His 2nd hit was a two-run double off Bill Walker in the 3rd inning. A RBI triple off Bill Walker in the 9th inning, accounted for his 3rd hit. His 4th hit, a two-run homerun off Heinie Meine in the 9th inning, cleared the fence in left-center. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Pie scored 3 runs, and he collected 6 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .343. He's now the 18th player in league history to hit for the cycle! BOSTON (N) - Boston (N)'s ace Vic Aldridge suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 4 weeks. In the 4th of the game against Cincinnati he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Aldridge was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Pulled Bicep Tendon. His ERA of 6.14 helped him to a 4-6 record this year. He struck out 35 and walked 34 in 102.2 innings.

PHILADELPHIA (N) - Boston (N)'s bats were sleeping, and Philadelphia (N)'s William Mccall gave them no chance to wake up. He gave up just 2 hits in recording his 1st shutout of the season. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Mccall (7-1) fanned 3 and walked 4, throwing 126 pitches. Thursday 4/20/1927: Chicago (N)'s Ruth severely injured
CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s players were scared when they had to watch Babe Ruth suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against Cincinnati. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Ruth will probaby miss 6 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Ulna. Surgery will be performed next week. Ruth has walked 15 times this year and posts a .456 OBP. While batting .275, 14 for 51, he has driven in 11 runs.
 
Monday 4/17/1927: Chicago (N)'s Smith wins Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Cleveland's Bill Lamar this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Bill pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .519 with 0 HR and 9 RBI while slugging .630. He has hit 2 longballs while batting .443 this season. His 27 hits and 2 walks add up to a .460 on-base percentage. He's 3rd in the American League in batting and 5th in RBI! Chicago (N)'s centerfielder Charles Smith had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. In 24 at bats he hit .542 with 2 HR and 7 RBI.
 
Sunday 4/16/1927: Cincinnati's John Brock pounds five hits
CINCINNATI - John Brock saw the ball really well, leading Cincinnati to a 6-5 win over New York (N). His five hits thrilled his teammates and coaches, and John seemed happy as well after the game. His 1st hit was a double off Hod Eller in the 1st inning. A pitch from Hod Eller in the 5th inning left his bat for a triple. A pitch from Hod Eller in the 9th inning left his bat for a triple. He collected singles in the 3rd and in the 6th (one RBI). John scored 2 runs, and he collected one RBI as well! Wednesday 4/12/1927: St. Louis (N)'s Babe Herman ropes six hits
CINCINNATI - 'Wow, six hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said St. Louis (N)'s rightfielder Babe Herman after the 14-2 win over Cincinnati. A two-run triple off John Donaldson in the 1st inning, accounted for his 1st hit. A pitch from Huck Betts in the 3rd inning left his bat for a two-run double. Number 4 in the 5th inning accounted for a RBI double. A RBI double off Bert Cole in the 8th inning accounted for his 6th hit. He had singles in the 2nd inning (one RBI) and in the 7th . Babe scored 3 runs, and he collected 7 RBI as well! This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 18 hits in 49 at bats, resulting in a .367 batting average.
 
Monday 4/10/1927: Player of the Week honors go to Hafey and Charleston
Chick Hafey from New York (A) wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Chick pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 10 RBI while slugging 1.182. Philadelphia (N)'s first baseman Oscar Charleston had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Oscar was on fire, hitting .500 with 2 HR and 13 RBI. Oscar is hitting .419 this year, with 13 hits in 31 at bats. He has driven in 13 runs, slugging .710. He's 3rd in the National League in batting, 4th in homeruns and 1st in RBI!
 
Sunday 4/9/1927: Philadelphia (N)'s Oscar Charleston laces 2000th career hit
PHILADELPHIA (N) - Philadelphia (N)'s first baseman Oscar Charleston was in good mood after the game against Cincinnati, and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. His best year so far was 1918 where he hit .355 with 24 homeruns and 116 RBI. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!' His hit in the 6th inning was a single off Dutch Leonard.
 
Wednesday 4/5/1927: Philadelphia (N)'s Oscar Charleston pounds six hits
PITTSBURGH - Oscar Charleston saw the ball really well, leading Philadelphia (N) to a 19-7 win over Pittsburgh. His six hits thrilled his teammates and coaches, and Oscar seemed happy as well after the game. Number 1 in the 1st inning accounted for a two-run double. A RBI double off Walter Bernhardt in the 6th inning accounted for his 4th hit. A pitch from Rags Faircloth in the 7th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 392 feet from home plate in right-center. Sunday 4/2/1927: James Bell drills 5 hits
PHILADELPHIA (N) - Boston (N)'s centerfielder James Bell once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Philadelphia (N)'s pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Sunday. His 2nd hit, off George Blaeholder in the 3rd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. His 5th hit, a solo homerun off Willie Powell in the 8th inning, landed an estimated 365 feet from home plate. He had singles in the 1st inning , in the 5th inning and in the 7th inning . James scored 4 runs, and he collected 2 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .556. The final score of the game was 13-0.
 
Sunday 4/2/1927: Ed Wells turns in great performance against Philadelphia (N)
PHILADELPHIA (N) - Philadelphia (N)'s hitters looked uncomfortable, and Boston (N)'s Ed Wells didn't help them. The southpaw fired his 1st shutout of the season, a 1-hitter. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' Wells (1-0) struck out 3 and walked 2, throwing 71 of 112 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Boston (N) was centerfielder James Bell, he collected 5 hits in 5 trips to the plate, going deep twice, scoring FOUR runs and driving in 2 runs.
