Thursday 10/26/1921: Most Valuable Pitcher winners announced
Speed Martin was named the American League Most Valuable Pitcher winner today. Cleveland's right-hander put up fabulous numbers this year which earned him the highest award a pitcher can receive. His ERA of 2.65 helped him to a 25-13 record this year. He struck out 125 and walked 89 in 373 innings. He has 32 complete games and 4 shutouts. He's 4th in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! The National League Most Valuable Pitcher winner was announced today as well, with Brooklyn's right-hander John In 45 starts this year John John He's 1st in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins!
 
Thursday 10/26/1921: Williams (PHA) and Beckwith (PIT) win Most Valuable Hitter
It was a day to remember for Philadelphia (A)'s Ken Williams, who won the American League Most Valuable Hitter today. It put the finishing touches on what has been a tremendous season for the slugger. His season features a batting average of .328 (192 hits in 586 AB), 39 doubles, 8 triples and 33 bombs. Williams collected 135 RBI and 124 runs as well. He's 1st in the American League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! Pittsburgh's third baseman John Beckwith had a fabulous season as well, no doubt about it. The National League shared this opinion and names the 19 year old the Most Valuable Hitter winner! His season features a batting average of .348 (194 hits in 558 AB), 27 doubles, 14 triples and 25 homeruns. Beckwith collected 117 RBI and 101 runs as well. He's 1st in the National League in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 2nd in RBI! Beckwith wins the award for the 2nd time in his 4-year career.
 
Thursday 10/26/1921: Goslin (WAS) and Moore (CHC) win Rookie Of The Year
The American League Rookie Of The Year winner was announced today, with Washington's rightfielder Goose Goslin earning the trophy for putting up the best numbers among rookies in his league. His season numbers are: .332 AVG, 176 hits, 32 doubles, 15 triples and 13 bombs, along with 109 RBI and 95 runs scored. He's 6th in the American League in batting, 9th in homeruns and 3rd in RBI! Chicago (N)'s Dobie Moore as well was almost in tears when he heard the news. The 28 year old third baseman was named the Rookie Of The Year winner in the National League today. What a way to begin a career! Moore has walked 43 times this year and posts a .384 OBP. While batting .338, 193 for 571, he has driven in 103 runs. He's 4th in the National League in batting and 9th in RBI!
 
Monday 10/2/1921: Chicago (N)'s Torriente wins Player of the Week award
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Chicago (A)'s rightfielder Kiki Cuyler. Kiki was on fire, hitting .500 with 0 HR and 5 RBI. Chicago (N)'s second baseman Cristobal Torriente had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Cristobal pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .739 with 1 HR and 4 RBI while slugging 1.087. This year Torriente drove in 69 and scored 102 runs while batting .308 with 9 longballs.
 
Sunday 10/1/1921: 's Cooper earns Pitcher of the Month award
Andy Cooper pitched like a legend in September, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. His ERA of just 3.48 helped him to a 6-1 record in September. He worked 62 innings, striking out 39 hitters while walking 10. Andy pitched a shutout as well. This season Cooper compiled an ERA of 3.93, going 25-21 in 49 starts. He fanned 174 while giving up 380 hits in 396 innings. He has 34 complete games and 2 shutouts. He's 1st in the American League in wins! It's the 3rd time that the National League Pitcher of the Month award goes to St. Louis (N)'s pitcher Dazzy Vance. He had an ERA of just 1.71 in 58 innings of work in which he struck out 36 hitters. His record in September is 4-0. Dazzy fired two shutouts! Opposing players hit .246 against Dazzy this season. It's the 2nd time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to Cleveland's leftfielder Austin Mchenry. He hit .367 with 25 RBI and slugged .643 in 98 at bats. Austin is hitting .320 this year, with 181 hits in 566 at bats. He has driven in 130 runs, slugging .507. He's 2nd in the American League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns! St. Louis (N)'s centerfielder Braggo Roth had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Batter of the Month. Braggo pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .375 with 2 and 23 RBI while slugging .594. Braggo is hitting .303 this year, with 171 hits in 565 at bats. He has driven in 100 runs, slugging .457.
 
Saturday 9/30/1921: New York (A)'s Meadows out for the season
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s right-hander Lee Meadows experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 3rd inning of the game against Philadelphia (A), Meadows complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. After being taken to a local hospital, Meadows was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Ruptured Disc Back. His ERA of 2.93 helped him to a 16-24 record this year. He struck out 115 and walked 100 in 362.2 innings. He has 35 complete games and one shutout.
 
Thursday 9/28/1921: Jesse Haines out for 7 weeks
DETROIT - When it rains, it pours. Detroit's right-hander Jesse Haines will not pitch for at least 7 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Philadelphia (A) where he left the field in the 5th inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Herniated Disc Back. In 20 starts this year Jesse struck out 45 batters in 171 innings of work. His ERA is 3.21, his record 10-6. He has 13 complete games and one shutout.
 
Monday 9/25/1921: Cleveland's Mchenry wins Player of the Week award
Cleveland's leftfielder Austin Mchenry had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Mchenry helped his team with an average of .423 and 8 RBI in 26 at bats. He has hit 18 longballs while batting .319 this season. His 175 hits and 49 walks add up to a .371 on-base percentage. He's 2nd in the American League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns! Vean Gregg of Cincinnati wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating National League's hitters the entire week. Saturday 9/23/1921: Bunny Hearn blanks Washington with a 2-hitter
CLEVELAND - Washington's hitters looked uncomfortable, and Cleveland's Bunny Hearn didn't help them. The left-hander fired his 4th shutout of the season, a 2-hitter. With two outs in the 5th inning Joe Wood singled to break up the no-hitter. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Hearn (23-13) struck out 4 and walked none, throwing 68 of 94 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Cleveland was centerfielder Bill Lamar, he finished with 4 hits in 5 AB, stroking two 2B's, scoring three runs. Cleveland scored 10 runs on 14 hits.
 
Tuesday 9/19/1921: Dutch Leonard quiets Pittsburgh bats with shutout
BROOKLYN - Brooklyn's left-hander Dutch Leonard is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Pittsburgh on just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 28th time he has done it in his career. Leonard (22-16) struck out 6 and walked 2, throwing 71 of 114 pitches for strikes. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today.' The hitting star for Brooklyn was first baseman Julio Rojo, he went 3 for 4. Brooklyn improved its record to 82-68, scoring 1 run on 6 hits.
 
Tuesday 9/19/1921: Cincinnati's Miller out for 5 weeks
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati's rightfielder Bing Miller hurt himself in the 6th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Bing Miller will miss at least 5 weeks. Cincinnati wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Miller had suffered a Broken Ulna. Bing is hitting .320 this year, with 179 hits in 559 at bats. He has driven in 93 runs, slugging .469. He's 9th in the National League in RBIs and 9th in homeruns!
 
Monday 9/18/1921: Dazzy Vance dominates Boston (N), gives up just 2 hits
ST. LOUIS (N) - Great days are rare. But not for St. Louis (N)'s right-hander Dazzy Vance. Boston (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 10th time he has done it in his career. Jack Fournier spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he doubled with two outs in the 5th inning. Vance (19-15) fanned 8 and walked 1, throwing 107 pitches. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Juan Guerra helped Vance at the plate, he collected 2 hits in 3 trips to the plate, and collecting 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 4-0.
 
Monday 9/18/1921: Miller and Torriente win Player of the Week award
The American League's best player of the week was St. Louis (A)'s Hack Miller, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Hack was on fire, hitting .435 with 4 HR and 7 RBI. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Cristobal Torriente, Chicago (N)'s starting second baseman. He had an on base percentage of .640 and hit .500, while driving in 3 runs.
 
Sunday 9/17/1921: Boston (N)'s Redding severely injured
BOSTON (N) - Boston (N)'s right-hander Dick Redding suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out for at least 8-9 weeks. In the 7th of the game against Pittsburgh he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Bone Chips Shoulder. Dick has a record of 3-13 this season, with an ERA of 4.09. In 154 Innings he was able to strike out 70 batters. Dick has pitched one shutout and 12 complete games.

CHICAGO (A) - Boston (A)'s right-hander Rasty Wright will never forget this day. The 25-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Chicago (A) on Wednesday. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Wright (5-6) struck out none and walked 2, throwing 55 of 103 pitches for strikes. Ralph Young provided Boston (A) with the offense Wright needed as he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB. The final score of the game was 4-0.

Garland Buckeye pitched like a legend in August, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. His ERA of just 1.95 helped him to a 5-2 record in August. He worked 60 innings, striking out 21 hitters while walking 15. Opposing players hit .213 against Garland this season. While posting an ERA of 1.85 he went 13-5 in 19 starts, fanning 56 and walking 42 hitters. Garland has pitched one shutout and 14 complete games. Chicago (A)'s shortstop Joe Dugan had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He has scored 38 runs on his own. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Wilbur Cooper, one of Pittsburgh's best starting pitchers. Wednesday 8/9/1921: Zack Wheat stars with 2000th career hit
WASHINGTON - Washington's Zack Wheat showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Philadelphia (A) on Wednesday. In 12 years of big league action so far, Zack has compiled a batting average of .314, along with 89 homeruns and 802 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.' With two outs in the 6th inning, Zack drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd.
 
Wednesday 8/9/1921: Philadelphia (A)'s Coombs severely injured, out for season
PHILADELPHIA (A) - Philadelphia (A)'s ace Jack Coombs will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Washington on Wednesday. Coombs was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Bone Chips Shoulder. In 29 starts this year Jack struck out 123 batters in 210.1 innings of work. His ERA is 3.00, his record 17-6. Jack has pitched 3 shutouts and 7 complete games. He's 9th in the American League in ERA and 2nd in wins!

Riggs Stephenson wins his 1st Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He had an on base percentage of .583 and hit .524, while driving in 5 runs. It's the 2nd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to New York (N)'s rightfielder Sam Rice. He had an on base percentage of .571 and hit .556, while driving in 3 runs.
 
Tuesday 8/1/1921: Wright (BOS) and Donaldson (CIN) win monthly pitcher award
Boston (A)'s pitcher Rasty Wright is the American League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in July. He went 3-0 in July and finished the month with an ERA of 1.00. He struck out 6 in 27 innings. In 3 starts this year Rasty struck out 6 batters in 27 innings of work. His ERA is 1.00, his record 3-0. John Donaldson couldn't have pitched much better than he did in July, and the National League thought so as well, naming the lefty Pitcher of the Month. It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Detroit's pitcher Garland Buckeye. Buckeye was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00. Along the way he struck out 7 in 18 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. Cincinnati's rightfielder Bing Miller had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Bing went 17 for 28 (.607), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 11 RBI.
 
Sunday 7/30/1921: Huge blow for Pittsburgh's Hamilton, career over
PITTSBURGH - It was one of baseball saddest days. Pittsburgh's left-hander Earl Hamilton fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Brooklyn on Sunday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Jimmie Dykes, then suddenly collapsed. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle which will require surgery. In 6 starts this year Earl struck out 19 batters in 58.1 innings of work. His ERA is 5.09, his record 2-6. His career featured a record of 79-95 with an ERA of 3.25. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.
 
Tuesday 7/25/1921: Frank Wickware (CHC) will miss 6 weeks
CHICAGO (N) - When it rains, it pours. Chicago (N)'s ace Frank Wickware will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Brooklyn where he left the field in the 9th inning. Ruptured Bicep Tendon was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Frank has a record of 10-13 this season, with an ERA of 4.44. In 200.2 Innings he was able to strike out 127 batters. He has 11 complete games and one shutout.
 
Monday 7/24/1921: Player of the Week honors go to Meusel and Hornsby
Bob Meusel wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Bob pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .458 with 1 HR and 7 RBI while slugging .792. The National League's best player of the week was Philadelphia (N)'s Rogers Hornsby, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. Rogers was on fire, hitting .522 with 2 HR and 6 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .373, Rogers hit .317 and slugged .528. He has collected 65 runs batted in this year. He's 7th in the National League in RBIs and 4th in homeruns!
 
Saturday 7/22/1921: Boston (A)'s Frank Ellerbe slams five hits
CHICAGO (A) - Frank Ellerbe led Boston (A) to a 15-1 win over Chicago (A) by squeezing five hits out of his bat. Number 2 in the 3rd inning, a shot estimated at 347 feet, cleared the wall in left field. His 3rd hit was a RBI triple off Rip Collins in the 7th inning. He collected singles in the 1st , in the 7th inning (one RBI) and in the 9th inning . Frank did drive in 4 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He is hitting .247 this season, with 1 HR and 6 RBI.
 
Monday 7/17/1921: Pittsburgh's Beckwith wins Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Bobby Veach, Detroit's starting leftfielder. Veach helped his team with an average of .381 and 10 RBI in 21 at bats. John Beckwith from Pittsburgh wins his 7th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. John was on fire, hitting .483 with 3 HR and 9 RBI. Beckwith has hit 17 longballs this year while batting .364. He adds 15 doubles, along with 62 runs scored. He's 2nd in the National League in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 2nd in RBI!
 
Monday 7/3/1921: Mcdonald (WAS) and Marquard (NYN) win P.O.W. award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Webster Mcdonald, one of Washington's best starting pitchers. Webster went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.00, while fanning 7 in 18 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. Rube Marquard of New York (N) wins his 3rd Player of the Week award for dominating National League's hitters the entire week. Rube went 2-0 with an ERA of 2.00, while fanning 10 in 18 innings of work. He was able to complete both starts of the week.
 
Saturday 7/1/1921: May (PHA) and Williams (BRO) win monthly pitcher award
Philadelphia (A)'s Jakie May had a terrific June, and it earned him the American League Pitcher of the month award. He went 4-1 in June and finished the month with an ERA of 1.00. He struck out 17 in 45 innings. Jakie also fired a shutout. Jakie has a record of 9-7 this season, with an ERA of 2.57. In 143.2 Innings he was able to strike out 53 batters. Jakie has pitched 2 shutouts and 10 complete games. John He started 8 games in June, going 6-2 and compiling an ERA of 1.90 in 71 innings. John His ERA of 2.68 helped him to a 14-8 record this year. He struck out 109 and walked 28 in 201.2 innings. He's 1st in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins!
 
Saturday 7/1/1921: Batter of the Month award winners announced
The Batter of the Month award in the American League goes to Cleveland's Austin Mchenry this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Austin was on fire, hitting .404 with 6 homeruns and 25 RBI. This year Mchenry drove in 67 and scored 43 runs while batting .321 with 11 homeruns. He's 2nd in the American League in RBIs and 3rd in homeruns! The National League's best player of the month was Brooklyn's Harry Heilmann, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. In 103 at bats he hit .369 with 3 HR and 26 RBI. Heilmann has hit for a .344 average this season. He has 40 extra base hits along with 171 total bases, resulting in a .566 slugging percentage. He's 6th in the National League in batting, 6th in homeruns and 4th in RBI!
 
Tuesday 6/27/1921: Ty Cobb has 3000th career hits
NEW YORK (N) - Ty Cobb got a standing ovation from 37337 fans in New York (N), who witnessed his 3000th career hit. He hit a single in the 8th off Colonel Snover for number 3000. His best year so far was 1905 where he hit .368 with 5 homeruns and 81 RBI. 'You dream about that as a kid, but when you reach such a milestone it's hard to believe. Fantastic.' It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame!
 
Monday 6/26/1921: Player of the Week honors go to Mchenry and Johnson
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Cleveland's Austin Mchenry this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Austin went 12 for 27 (.444), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 10 RBI. Cincinnati's leftfielder George Johnson had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. George was on fire, hitting .500 with 2 HR and 6 RBI. This year Johnson drove in 61 and scored 50 runs while batting .292 with 15 bombs. He's 2nd in the National League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns!
 
Saturday 6/24/1921: New York (A)'s Mcquillan out for 5-6 weeks
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s right-hander George Mcquillan suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 5-6 weeks. In the 8th of the game against St. Louis (A) he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. New York (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Mcquillan had suffered a Strained Bicep Muscle. Opposing players hit .253 against George this season. While posting an ERA of 2.62 he went 6-10 in 20 starts, fanning 58 and walking 54 hitters. He has 15 complete games and one shutout.
 
Thursday 6/22/1921: Pete Alexander pitches 1-hit shutout against Brooklyn
PITTSBURGH - Great days are rare. But not for Pittsburgh's right-hander Pete Alexander. Brooklyn found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 41st time he has done it in his career. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Biz Mackey singled with no outs in the 5th inning. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Alexander (7-7) struck out 9 and issued 3 BB, throwing 69 of 127 pitches for strikes. Todd Allen provided Pittsburgh with the offense Alexander needed as he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB. Pittsburgh improved its record to 39-33, scoring 2 runs on 8 hits.
 
Monday 6/19/1921: Player of the Week honors go to Peckinpaugh and Rice
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Detroit's shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh. He had an on base percentage of .577 and hit .560, while driving in 2 runs. The National League's best player of the week was New York (N)'s Sam Rice, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Sam was on fire, hitting .577 with 0 HR and 4 RBI. Wednesday 6/14/1921: Babe Ruth uncorks cycle hits against New York (N)
NEW YORK (N) - Chicago (N)'s leftfielder Babe Ruth accomplished a difficult feat in a game against New York (N), hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .307! In the 1st inning he belted a RBI double off Carmen Hill. A three-run triple off Carmen Hill in the 4th inning, accounted for his 2nd hit. A single in the 6th off Harry Coveleski accounted for his 3rd hit. A pitch from Dick Rudolph in the 8th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 366 feet from home plate in left field. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Babe did drive in 5 while scoring 4 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 64 hits in 213 at bats, resulting in a .300 batting average. 4 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Babe. On 10/4/1919, Benny Kauff was the last player to hit for the cycle.

Thursday 6/1/1921: Hearn and Leonard receive Pitcher of the Month award
The best month of May in the American League certainly had Cleveland's left-hander Bunny Hearn, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. His record of 6-2 in 8 was among the leagues best this month. In 70 innings of work he allowed just 69 hits while striking out 15, compiling an ERA of just 1.80. Bunny pitched a shutout as well. His ERA of 1.66 helped him to a 10-3 record this year. He struck out 35 and walked 17 in 130.1 innings. Bunny has pitched 2 shutouts and 12 complete games. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' BOSTON (A) - Boston (A)'s right-hander Johnny Enzmann suffered a severe injury on Wednesday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 5th of the game against Philadelphia (A) he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle which will require surgery. This season Enzmann compiled an ERA of 5.21, going 2-4 in 9 starts. He fanned 17 while giving up 75 hits in 65.2 innings.

Washington's centerfielder Charles Blackwell had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. DETROIT - Being hit with a pitch is no fun at all. Especially when you get injured. Detroit's second baseman Riggs Stephenson will miss about 6 weeks after being hit by Jim Bagby in the 4th inning of the game between Detroit and Washington. After being taken to a local hospital, Stephenson was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Fractured Cheekbone. He has hit 2 taters while batting .240 this season. His 31 hits and 11 walks add up to a .310 on-base percentage.

CLEVELAND - Larry Gardner saw the ball really well, leading Washington to a 12-9 win over Cleveland. His five hits thrilled his teammates and coaches, and Larry seemed happy as well after the game. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Tricep Muscle. Dick has a record of 1-1 this season, with an ERA of 1.86. In 19.1 Innings he was able to strike out 10 batters. Dick has pitched one shutout and 2 complete games.
 
Monday 5/1/1921: Coombs (PHA) and Vance (STL) win monthly pitcher award
Jack Coombs couldn't have pitched much better than he did in April, and the American League thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. His ERA of just 1.29 helped him to a 7-0 record in April. He worked 56 innings, striking out 32 hitters while walking 23. Jack got two complete game shutouts as well! St. Louis (N)'s pitcher Dazzy Vance is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in April. He went 5-2 in April and finished the month with an ERA of 2.61. He struck out 39 in 69 innings.

Ken Williams of Philadelphia (A) wins his 4th Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the American League. Williams helped his team with an average of .348 and 25 RBI in 92 at bats. It's the 1st time that the National League Batter of the Month award goes to Cincinnati's rightfielder Bing Miller. Bing went 44 for 104 (.423), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 23 RBI.
 
Monday 5/1/1921: Eller (NYY) and Sewell (CIN) win P.O.W. award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Hod Eller, one of New York (A)'s best starting pitchers. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.00 while going 2-0. Sunday 4/30/1921: Philadelphia (N) has no chance in a 2-hitter by John Donaldson
PHILADELPHIA (N) - Cincinnati's left-hander John Donaldson is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Philadelphia (N) found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Donaldson 2nd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 18th shutouts in his career. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' Donaldson (5-3) struck out 8 and walked 4, throwing 67 of 119 pitches for strikes. Joe Sewell helped Donaldson at the plate, he stroked 5 hits in 6 AB, blasting a homerun, doubling twice, scoring twice and collecting 5 RBI. The 38 year old pitched a 2-hit shutout against Cleveland, recording his 2nd shutout of the season. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Coombs (5-0) struck out 5 and issued 1 BB, throwing 64 of 106 pitches for strikes. Charlie Jamieson provided Philadelphia (A) with the offense Coombs needed as he finished 2 for 4, and collecting 2 RBI. Philadelphia (A) scored 4 runs on 7 hits.

Torn Ligament Elbow was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials.
 
Saturday 4/1/1921: Bill Upham out for 7 weeks
BOSTON (A) - When it rains, it pours. Boston (A)'s right-hander Bill Upham will not pitch for at least 7 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Washington where he left the field in the 1st inning. Boston (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Upham had suffered a Pulled Tricep Muscle.
