Sunday 7/23/1911: Cy Swaim earns 300th career win CHICAGO (A) - Cleveland's right-hander Cy Swaim already had some highlights in his career, and today he added a historic one as he picked up his 300th career win. He struck out 2 and walked 5 earned runs. Over 9 innings he allowed 5 earned runs and 9 hits. He has enmassed 1550 K's in 4675 career innings so far, and posts a 2.99 lifetime ERA. He has won 20 games 9 times in his career, setting a career high with 27 wins in 1899. 'I still remember my first win. But the one today is something special. I'll definitely keep it in my heart!' It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame! The number he has put up are well worth it. |

Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Thomas will miss about 7 weeks. Chicago (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Thomas had suffered a Fractured Hand. Frosty has a record of 10-2 this season, with an ERA of 2.32. In 104.2 Innings he was able to strike out 72 batters. Tuesday 6/13/1911: Huge blow for Pittsburgh's Cicotte, career over PITTSBURGH - It was one of baseball saddest days. Pittsburgh's right-hander Eddie Cicotte fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Chicago (N) on Tuesday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Mal Eason, then suddenly collapsed. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Ruptured Disc Back. Surgery will be performed next week. Eddie has a record of 7-5 this season, with an ERA of 2.24. In 152.2 Innings he was able to strike out 103 batters. He has 11 complete games and 4 shutouts. His career featured a record of 123-106 with an ERA of 2.59. Baseball will certainly miss this great player. |

Monday 5/1/1911: St.vrain and Hughes receive Pitcher of the Month award Winner of this months American League Pitcher of the Month award is New York (A)'s Jim St.vrain. His record of 6-1 in 7 was among the leagues best this month. In 61 innings of work he allowed just 32 hits while striking out 61, compiling an ERA of just 0.74. Jim fired two shutouts! Tom Hughes pitched like a legend in April, and the National League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He went 7-0 in April and finished the month with an ERA of 0.94. Monday 5/1/1911: New York (A)'s Oldring earns Batter of the Month award The Batter of the Month award in the American League goes to New York (A)'s Rube Oldring this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Monday 5/1/1911: Flaherty (CLE) and Hughes (CIN) win P.O.W. award Cleveland's pitcher Patsy Flaherty had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Patsy went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.50, while fanning 9 in 18 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. This season Flaherty compiled an ERA of 2.77, going 3-2 in 6 starts. Sunday 4/30/1911: Willie Mitchell (NYA) will miss 5 weeks NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s pitcher Willie Mitchell was part of a scary incident that saw the lefty being hit by a line drive in the 3rd inning of the game between New York (A) and St. Louis (A). Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Mitchell will miss about 5 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Hand. His ERA of 2.38 helped him to a 2-2 record this year. He struck out 23 and walked 16 in 45.1 innings. Willie has pitched one shutout and 3 complete games. |
Friday 4/28/1911: Jim St.vrain turns in great performance against St. Louis (A) ST. LOUIS (A) - Great days are rare. But not for New York (A)'s southpaw Jim St.vrain. St. Louis (A) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 25th time he has done it in his career. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' St.vrain (6-1) struck out 6 and issued 1 BB, throwing 84 of 133 pitches for strikes. New York (A)'s leftfielder Chief Wilson finished 4 for 5, scoring 2 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of St.vrain. New York (A) improved its record to 18-8, scoring 7 runs on 14 hits. |
Thursday 4/27/1911: Noodles Hahn out for 5 weeks BROOKLYN - When it rains, it pours. Brooklyn's left-hander Noodles Hahn will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Chicago (N) where he left the field in the 1st inning. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Tricep Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. This season Hahn compiled an ERA of 2.85, going 3-3 in 7 starts. He fanned 22 while giving up 52 hits in 53.2 innings. He's 8th in the National League in wins! |

Wednesday 4/19/1911: Jim St.vrain pitches 1-hit shutout against Philadelphia (A) NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s left-hander Jim St.vrain is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Philadelphia (A) on just one hit. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 24th time he has done it in his career. St.vrain (4-1) struck out an astounding 13 and walked 3, throwing 79 of 132 pitches for strikes. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' New York (A)'s rightfielder Bob Bescher finished 2 for 2, scoring two runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of St.vrain. Monday 4/17/1911: Ed Walsh blanks Chicago (N) with a 2-hitter CINCINNATI - Ed Walsh had some fun again. Chicago (N) hitters did not. Cincinnati's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 31 career shutouts in 275 games started. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Walsh (4-1) struck out 4 and issued 2 BB, throwing 64 of 99 pitches for strikes. Monday 4/17/1911: New York (N)'s Joss wins Player of the Week award The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Chicago (A)'s Bill Bartley this time, as the pitcher displayed the best pitching perfomance in his league. Bartley was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.53. Along the way he struck out 15 in 17 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. His ERA of 1.32 helped him to a 4-0 record this year. He struck out 25 and walked 12 in 34 innings. Bill has pitched 2 shutouts and 2 complete games. He's 3rd in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! It's the 12th time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to New York (N)'s pitcher Addie Joss. Addie went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.50, while fanning 9 in 18 innings of work. Monday 4/10/1911: Rube Marquard shuts out Cincinnati on 2 hits PHILADELPHIA (N) - Good things can happen when you throw strikes. And Rube Marquard did so today, in a 2-hit shutout against Cincinnati. Marquard (1-2) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 2, throwing 132 pitches. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' Rabbit Robinson helped Marquard at the plate, he stroked 2 hits in 3 AB, hitting a double. Philadelphia (N) scored 1 run on 10 hits. |
