A great season convinced the voters that he is the worthy American League Hitter Of The Year winner. Clarke has hit one longball this year while batting .328. Sunday 10/22/1903: Stone and Bender receive Rookie Of The Year George Stone was named the American League Rookie Of The Year winner today. Washington's centerfielder put up pretty good numbers for a rookie this year. This 27 year old kid will probably have a long and successful career! His season numbers are: .281 AVG, 154 hits, 30 doubles, 8 triples and 2 homeruns, along with 64 RBI and 65 runs scored. The 1903 National League Rookie Of The Year winner is from Boston (N) this season. Chief Bender put together impressive numbers for a rookie en route to win the first major award of his career. Saturday 10/7/1903: Jack Stivetts pitches his 5th shutout of the season CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s right-hander Jack Stivetts is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Philadelphia (N) on just one hit. It's his 5th shutout this season, and the 45th time he has done it in his career. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Stivetts (22-10) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 3, throwing 128 pitches. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Shad Barry in a game against Philadelphia (A). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Thursday 8/31/1903: Adonis Terry earns 300th career win CHICAGO (A) - Washington's right-hander Adonis Terry gained immortality by recording his 300th win in the big leagues. Adonis Terry threw 138 pitches in 8 innings, 80 for strikes. He allowed 2 earned runs while striking out 4 and walking 2 earned runs. His career features a 2.85 ERA, along with 3388 K's in 4453 innings. 'I still remember my first win. But the one today is something special. I'll definitely keep it in my heart!' He has won 20 games 8 times in his career, setting a career high with 27 wins in 1891. It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame! The number he has put up are well worth it. |

Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Opposing players hit .256 against Bobby this season. Tuesday 5/30/1903: Huge blow for Boston (A)'s Hoffer, career over BOSTON (A) - It was one of baseball saddest days. Boston (A)'s right-hander Bill Hoffer fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against St. Louis (A) on Tuesday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to King Bailey, then suddenly collapsed. Boston (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Hoffer had suffered a Torn Tricep Muscle. His ERA of 3.80 helped him to a 5-9 record this year. He struck out 58 and walked 54 in 123 innings.
